About

Notesium is a free, open-source system for bi-directional linked Markdown notes with an interactive force-directed graph, Vim integration, and a tiny 8MB binary.

Notesium takes the Zettelkasten and networked-thought concept and strips it down to essentials. An 8MB standalone binary (no Electron, no dependencies) that serves a web UI with an embedded editor supporting Vim mode. Bi-directional links are first-class: every note shows its backlinks automatically, and an interactive force-directed graph visualizes your knowledge network. Full-text search with line-level highlighting finds anything instantly. Periodic notes (daily/weekly) use deterministic naming so they're always predictable. Labels are simply single-word note titles that function as tags. The CLI and API interfaces let you build custom workflows. Works alongside external editors like Vim through a dedicated plugin. All notes are flat Markdown files in a single directory β€” no database, no lock-in, fully portable. Designed for developers and power users who want networked thought without the overhead.

Who Is Notesium Best For?

Notesium is particularly well-suited for:

Developers who love Vim
Zettelkasten practitioners
Users who want minimal overhead
Privacy-focused users wanting local-only notes
CLI power users
