Samsung Notes is Samsung's free note-taking app for Galaxy phones and tablets, built around S Pen handwriting, PDF annotation, and voice recordings. It also runs on Windows PCs and syncs through Samsung Cloud.

Samsung Notes replaced S Note, Memo, and Action Memo as the default notes app on Galaxy devices in 2016 and has since become one of the most widely installed note apps in the world, with over a billion Google Play downloads. It combines typed text, S Pen handwriting, drawings, photos, and voice recordings in the same note, with pens, highlighters, and erasers for natural sketching. You can import PDFs and annotate them, convert handwriting to text, add audio bookmarks that link recordings to what you wrote, tag and organize notes in nested folders, and lock notes with a password or biometrics. Screen-off memos let you jot with the S Pen without unlocking the phone. On supported Galaxy devices, Galaxy AI adds Note Assist (summaries, auto-formatting, translation), Transcript Assist for recordings, and drawing and writing aids, and Gemini can create notes by voice. Notes sync automatically through Samsung Cloud, can be shared and co-edited in shared notebooks, can sync to Microsoft OneNote, and export to PDF, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and images. A Windows app on the Microsoft Store runs on any PC since 2025 (optimized for Galaxy Books). The big caveat is lock-in: the Android app is officially supported only on Samsung devices, and there is no iOS, macOS, or web client.
