About

Gingko Writer is a web-based writing tool where text lives in cards arranged in horizontal columns, so you can see the big picture and the details side by side, write in Markdown, and export a finished draft.

Gingko Writer, built by Adriano Ferrari, organizes a document as a tree of cards: each column holds the children of the card to its left, so a premise can branch into chapters, scenes and paragraphs that stay visible at the same time. Writing and organizing happen in the same view: you dump ideas into cards, drag them into a structure, flesh each one out in Markdown, then rearrange freely. Keyboard shortcuts drive most actions, cards can be split and merged, and a fullscreen editor helps with focus. When a draft is finished it can be exported in a couple of clicks to traditional formats. It is used for novels, theses, legal briefs, course notes and daily logs. The current product runs in the browser at app.gingkowriter.com; an older open-source Electron desktop app (Gingko Desktop) preceded it. The client code, written in Elm, is public on GitHub and still receives commits in 2026. Pricing is a subscription after a 14-day free trial.
