About

Day One is an award-winning, end-to-end encrypted journaling app for capturing daily entries with photos, video, audio, location and weather, available on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android and the web.

Day One is one of the longest-running and most polished digital journaling apps. Launched in 2011 by Paul Mayne and acquired by Automattic (the company behind WordPress.com and Tumblr) in 2021, it lets you write unlimited entries across multiple journals with Markdown formatting, then enrich them with photos, videos, audio recordings with transcription, drawings, scanned documents and automatically logged context such as location, weather and activity. Daily prompts, a prompt library and templates help build a writing habit, while streaks and "On This Day" memories resurface past entries. Journals are protected with end-to-end encryption, and entries can be created from iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Android or any browser, as well as by email, SMS, browser extensions, Shortcuts, IFTTT, Zapier and Strava. The paid Gold tier adds AI-powered reflection features such as Daily Chat, entry summaries and deeper prompts, and Day One can turn your journal into professionally printed books.
